"The swan song is a metaphorical phrase for a final gesture, effort, or performance given just before death or retirement. The phrase refers to an ancient belief that swans sing a beautiful song just before their death, having been silent during most of their lifetime."
I've long been fascinated with swans, and their representation in art, music, dance, mythology, and literature. In many ways, the concept of the "Swan Song", is a bit of a reminder for me of my own mortality, something which I've been more aware of than ever since the sudden loss of my Father in 2008. "Memento Mori" - Latin for, "Remember, you must die" begs the question of each and every one of us... what will you leave behind? How will you use your gifts? What beautiful song will you sing?
